The recent plight of TV host Kate Garraway and her family highlight that not only are Lasting Powers of Attorney crucial to have in place but that they are also not just for the elderly.

Having caught Covid at the start of the pandemic, Derek, who is only 53, had been in a coma for several months. He still does not have capacity and never made a Lasting Power of Attorney which means that Kate has struggled to sort anything out financially. She said “Like many things the car is entirely in Derek’s name, the insurance is in Derek’s name, and a lot of our bank accounts”.
